A Budget Flat Iron with Professional Features? I’m as big a bargain hunter as anyone else and I’d love nothing more than to find a flat iron with professional features for a budget price. Recently, a friend asked me, “is Conair a good straightener?” And I decided that I’d better give her an honest and unbiased answer instead of just writing it off as cheap.
I’ve always thought of Conair Corp as a company which makes cheap drugstore type flat irons. But lately I’ve been hearing a whole lot about a model called the Infiniti Pro. Could this be the best Conair flat iron? Time for some detective work…
The Infiniti Pro Conair flat iron retails for around $40 but has some pretty neat features and is receiving rave reviews from an impressive number of customers. Can this Conair hair straightener offer professional results for a budget price tag? Or is their use of the word “Pro” a bit of a stretch? Are conair flat irons good or should you keep saving for something better?
My Conair straightener review seeks to identify the best and worst features of this model. Is it as good as one of the PROs or is this Conair a total CON? Enjoy!
Size Options for Styling
When I recommend a set of flat irons to a friend or client, plate size is always a pretty big consideration for me. If you have short hair, you need narrow plates for precision styling but if your hair’s super long you’ll want the widest plates possible so that it doesn’t take all day to work through the long sections.
The Conair flat iron appeals to me because there are a range of plate widths to choose from without the annoyance of having to flick from model to model to try and find the size you’re after. .
The Conair 1 inch flat iron would be good for people with short hair or people who want to make tight spiral curls with their flat irons and the Conair 2 inch straightener would be a better choice for people with long locks which take ages to straighten. And, there’s even a size in between: the 1 ½ inch plates which would be more suitable for styling loose curls or luxurious waves.

Fast Heat, Top Temperatures
This Conair instant heat straightener promises to heat up almost as soon as you turn it on: in just 20 seconds! I checked out the Conair reviews and almost every customer said that they lived up to the promise and provided fast and reliable heat. They are coated with tourmaline which is an excellent conductor of heat (as well as frizz-killing negative ions!) and also heats more evenly than other materials.
The Conair flat iron heat settings allow for versatility and control. They can heat right up to 446 degrees fahrenheit. You’d never actually want to turn them up this high because that would melt your cortex and fry your hair (370 degrees is ideal for most hair types) but luckily there are heat controls so you can choose your temperature and LED indicator lights so you can keep track of it.
Floating Plates = Snag Free Styling
This Conair hair iron is up with the play technology wise and features floating plates. The purpose of these is to allow you to work through the hair sections more quickly and without painful (and damaging!) snags.
While this is a feature of most modern professional irons, Conair might not have quite mastered the art yet. The most common complaint in Conair straightner reviews is that the plates easily fall out of alignment which actually causes more pulling and catching (not many reviews said this but it is worth being aware of). If you’re easy on your irons and only use them for occasional nights out it probably won’t be a problem for you.
Clever Safety Features
The Conair flat iron temperature is really hot so it’s a good thing they’ve built a few safety features into their design. A burning hot piece of ceramic at 450 degrees fahrenheit could quickly cause serious damage to your bathroom counter or even burn your house down!
The Infinity Pro Conair flat iron comes with a heat shield which you can fit over the top of the straighteners when you’ve finished using them. They can take a while to cool down and this means you won’t char a hole in your counter. They also feature an automatic shut off function, so if you’ve got a mind like a sieve and forget to turn them off when you’re done, they won’t burn the house down. I really like these features and they are things that some professional models haven’t even thought of!

A Smashing Warranty
One thing that really puts my mind at ease about the quality of this Conair ceramic hair straightener is the extensive warranty they offer. This straightener has a limited warranty of 60 months (that’s 5 years!) on the workmanship and parts. The only other flat iron that I’ve come across with such an impressive warranty is the (far more expensive!) Bio Ionic Onepass. So I figure that Conair Hair Appliances must be fairly confident in the quality and durability of this product!
What do the Customers Say?
After more than 700 conair straightener reviews, this straightener has an overall consumer rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars on Amazon.com. Lots of the Conair flat iron reviews are from customers who are amazed at the results they get from this straightener, even people with quite coarse or frizzy hair. Why not read a few of the customer reviews yourself?
My Opinion: A Good Buy for the Budget Styler
I’m a total snob when it comes to hair straighteners (hey! I am a professional stylist!) and I don’t usually rate budget models that highly. But I give this Conair ceramic straightener 4 out of 5 stars. If you don’t straighten very often or don’t have the cash to splash out on a professional model then this flat iron is a pretty good option.
Personally, I’m still a tiny bit skeptical about whether this Conair flatiron could really be as effective as a professional model that’s three times the price! But the only possible flaw I’ve found is that they haven’t quite got their “floating” technology right. I might just have to skip over to Amazon.com and buy a pair for myself – I could do with some inexpensive irons for travelling – and at this price I’ve got nothing to loose! And, if they die, at least I’ll have that 5 year warranty.
Last time I checked, the Conair Infinity flat iron was on sale for $30. Why not check if the sale’s still on?
